Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have asbestos in my house?

Asbestos has commonly been used in many construction and finishing materials from the early 1900's to the late 1980's. So if your house was built prior to 1990, the short answer is most likely yes.

Q: Do I have mould in my house?

Mould requires moisture and food to grow.  Buildings are made from materials that support mould growth.  If you have conditions inside your building such as water infiltration, leakage, lack of ventilation  or condensation, mould amplification is likely to occur.

Q: What is "Black Mould"?

Black mould typically refers to toxigenic Stachybotrys, however, many moulds can manifest themselves in the form of dark or black colonies that are visible to the naked eye such as Chaetomium, Cladosporium and others.

Q: Is asbestos dangerous to my health?

Asbestos is dangerous when it's fibres become airborne and are inhaled.  This can lead to Lung Cancer, Asbestosis and Mesothelioma.

Exposure can occur when asbestos containing products are accidently disturbed, or during renovation work.

Q: What can affect the indoor air quality in my house?

Multiple variables can alter the air quality inside your house, including mould, dust, animals and vermin, chemical use, products of combustion, plants, external contaminants, the weather and most importantly the building ventilation system.

Q: Do I have Radon in my house?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is present in soil and rock. The most common way for it to enter your building is through penetrations or cracks in the foundation walls or floors. Radon is present in Alberta and measurement is available.

Minimize your health
& safety risks.
